CPA Launches Student News Team

Compass Primary Academy is proud to announce the launch of its school News Team, a new initiative giving students the chance to become young journalists and contribute directly to the school’s communications.

The team, made up of four budding writers in Year 6 (Tamara, Fatou, Kaylah and Deborah), will report on school events, interview staff members for a new ‘Staff Spotlight’ feature, and write book reviews, giving students the chance to develop their writing and communication skills while keeping the school community informed and engaged.

Speaking of her new role, Tamara said: "I'm glad the News Team started. It will get people more interested in what is happening at school." Fatou added: "I feel passionate about news reporting. I like questioning teachers about their views."

The ‘Staff Spotlight’ will allow pupils and parents to get to know the adults who support the day-to-day running of the school, highlighting the people who make a difference behind the scenes. Meanwhile, event coverage and book reviews will celebrate the achievements of students and encourage a love of reading across the academy.

Principal, Jo Fallowell, said: "We are thrilled to share our newly appointed CPA News Team. We hope this initiative will not only help our students to develop their communication and writing skills but also give them a platform to celebrate school life, share stories that matter to them and our wider community, and contribute positively to society.

“By giving our pupils these opportunities and experiences, we hope to equip them with the skills, confidence, and ‘tickets for life’ to go on and achieve big things in the future."

The CPA News Team reflects Compass Primary Academy’s commitment to fostering creativity, confidence, and student voice. Their stories will soon appear on the school’s website and social media channels, keeping families and the local community up to date with all the latest news from the academy.
