Gretton Primary Academy has won both the Northamptonshire and Leicestershire regional tournaments of the British Dodgeball Primary Schools Championship.

The school, which is part of Brooke Weston Trust, sent its Year 6 team to compete at Northampton College on 27th February and at Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College (WQE) in Leicester on 6th March, with eight schools taking part in each event.

The wins mean that Gretton Primary has secured two places in the Midlands Regional Finals, due to take place in Kettering later this summer term, marking a significant achievement for a school of its size.

Assistant Principal and PE Lead Mrs Sarah Block, who has coached the team, said: "The children have worked unbelievably hard to succeed at this competition. They have put countless hours of breaktimes and lunchtimes, fine-tuning their skills and trying out different game plays. With such a small number of children in Year 6, you really have to work with what you've got, and luckily their talent is phenomenal."

Year 6 pupil Malloy Nicolls, age 11, said: "It was really fun to play and we were really pleased with the result. We love playing it in our own time, so it was just amazing to take it to competition level."

Teammate Lottie Savory, also 11, added: "We all worked really hard and our results showed it. It was hard dodging all of the difficult balls, but we just kept going."

Principal Julia Dickinson said: "This is a fantastic achievement and the whole Gretton community should be very proud. As a school, we are committed to investing in sport, coaching and the wider development of our pupils, and this result is a testament to that."

The team will now look ahead to the Midlands Regional Finals later this term.
