The Northamptonshire housebuilder has given the school 210 high-visibility bag tags for their students to wear on their bags whilst walking to and from school, ensuring they can be easily seen on the roads as the darker nights draw in.

The theme for this year’s campaign is ‘No Need to Speed’, focusing on how a reduced speed of traffic leads to safe and healthy journeys.

Emma Goodwin, Principal at Oakley Vale Primary School, said: ‘We are very grateful to Barratt Homes for this generous donation which will ensure our students are more visible on their journeys to and from school. The distribution of these bag tags will mean that we can give our students a reminder of the need to stay safe, visible and cross roads sensibly and safely on their way to school.’

Chanda Chileshe, Senior Sales Manager at Barratt Homes Northampton, said: 'We want to ensure the pupils in the local communities remain visible now the darker nights are here, and our donation will hopefully still encourage them to walk to school safely during Road Safety Week. This is a campaign we actively support each year as we endeavour to help local school children in their efforts to commute on foot, and the kit bags have proven to be both effective and practical.

'As a result of the Covid-19 crisis, it’s even more important for us to support the local schools in and around the communities we build, so we’re thrilled to have had the chance to support Oakley Vale Primary School.'
