This new addition to our family of schools represents an important step forward in providing high-quality education and creating a vibrant community in Wisbech. Here are some reflections from Dr Rachel Lawrence-Byron and her team…

The first few weeks have been filled with excitement and activity at The Wisbech Academy. Our 'Welcome Week' was designed to set clear expectations for behaviour and learning, ensuring that every student feels supported and empowered from day one. We introduced a behaviour curriculum, emphasising respect, responsibility, and resilience - values that are foundational to our educational philosophy and integral to our vision of nurturing well-rounded individuals.

During the WOW week, students participated in engaging "wow" activities that captured their imaginations:

• Escape Room in Maths: This innovative approach allowed students to collaborate and apply their problem-solving skills in a fun environment.
• Making Rainbows in Science: A hands-on experiment that not only taught scientific concepts but also sparked joy and creativity among our young learners.
• Whole School Singing: This event created a sense of unity and community spirit, reinforcing the importance of collaboration and teamwork.

At The Wisbech Academy, we pride ourselves on being a school for all, welcoming young people of all abilities and backgrounds from across Wisbech. We celebrate the diversity in our community and believe that this rich tapestry of experiences enhances the learning environment for everyone.

The Wisbech Academy benefits from its close relationship with Thomas Clarkson Academy. This partnership allows students to access shared facilities and participate in joint extracurricular activities, such as the newly formed sports clubs. This collaboration is vital in helping students make new friends and build a supportive network within our school community. Our commitment to providing a holistic education means we encourage participation in sports, arts, and other extracurricular activities that enrich student life and strengthen our community.

The enthusiasm among our students has been wonderful to see and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Students have expressed their enjoyment of the WOW week activities, with many highlighting the interactive and engaging nature of the lessons. They particularly appreciated the opportunity to work collaboratively with their peers and the chance to explore subjects in creative ways.

The whole school singing event was a particular favourite, with students commenting on how it helped them feel part of a larger community. During this event, they delivered a heartfelt rendition of "Mountain" by Sam Ryder, a song that resonates with themes of perseverance and overcoming obstacles. Many students noted that the WOW week activities, including the singing performance, helped ease their transition into secondary school, making them feel more comfortable and excited about their new learning environment.

Our temporary accommodations within Thomas Clarkson Academy have provided a smooth transition for our first cohort, and we eagerly look forward to moving into our permanent building in 2026.

We look forward to sharing more updates as we continue this journey together, cultivating an atmosphere where ambition flourishes and every student receives the support they need in their educational pursuits.

For families who wish to see the academy in a day-to-day setting, tours are available throughout this week. The deadline for applying for secondary school places is October 31st, 2024.
