Oakley Vale students sing at Young Voices concert
A choir of 48 students from Oakley Vale took part in a massive concert at the Genting Arena in Birmingham alongside thousands of other children from all over the country.
Our students, from Years 5 and 6, have been practising their songs and dance moves so that they will blend in seamlessly with other school choirs in the Young Voices event. It gives students the opportunity to perform at world class venues and to be part of an amazing, unforgettable experience.
This was the seventh year that students from Oakley Vale have taken part in the extravaganza and many of their parents and supporters went along to the arena in Birmingham to hear them perform and cheer them on.
The concert combined the power of singing together as one, with accompaniment from a wide range of musicians and artists, which included Natalie Williams, The Beatbox Collective and Tabby O Callaghan. With a full live band, backing singers and the internationally acclaimed conductor David Lawrence, the evening was one of the most exciting and memorable musical experiences imaginable.
Year 5 teacher Ms Grkinic has been practising the mix of rock and pop songs with the students since the start of the school year to ensure they were fully prepared and ready for the concert. All of the schools wore Young Voices T-shirts and sat in stands that filled the entire length of the stage.
Ms Grkinic said ‘The atmosphere in the arena was absolutely amazing. It was incredible to see the hundreds of schools all co-ordinated and singing together at once. I was extremely proud of all of the children, how they remembered all the words to the songs and how they performed so incredibly well together with the other schools. It was a fantastic event and everyone loved every minute of it.’
