BWA student plays for Northampton Saints
Brooke Weston Academy student Tommy Sims was thrilled to be selected to play for Northampton Saints at a prestigious rugby competition.
Tommy, from Year 10, only recently moved to the Northampton Saints Youth Academy and was picked from a field of 50 to take part in the prestigious tournament at Sheffield University. He played his heart out at the fixture, which attracts top regional and national talent scouts, and despite suffering an injury and mild concussion, that didn’t stop him!
He said ‘I was so excited about being selected! I have been playing rugby since I was six years old and it is sheer hard work and determination that has got me to where I am now. I play fly half or inside centre. I love my position because I can monitor the game and I’m in charge. Rugby is a tactical and skilled game, which is why I enjoy it so much. I love playing, practice up to four times a week and my goal is to play professionally and represent England.’
PE teacher Miss Jodie Barber, who has been Tommy’s tutor since he started at Brooke Weston, said ‘Everything that Tommy has accomplished is amazing and I’ve followed his rugby career all the way through. He really did himself proud and played well. He has worked extremely hard for this.’
