Peckover nursery build progressing well
Work is progressing on Peckover Primary’s new pre-school building which opens in September. Principal Carrie Norman and her staff are looking forward to offering the same high quality provision as the main school but with plenty of play and outside activities for their youngest children.
The pre-school will cater for up to 52 three and four-year-olds and, as well as a breakfast club and after-school provision. It will open for 48 weeks per year and also run a holiday club outside of the school term.
Principal Carrie Norman said: ‘This is really exciting. We are delighted to be able to offer a purpose-built pre-school which will have the same vision and values as our main school, but with more play and outside space.
‘Some existing staff will work in the nursery so that we can ensure continuity and progression which is important. We will be recruiting some new staff as well. The space is going to be very natural with wooden toys and equipment, but the biggest thing is that we are developing the outdoor space with activities like mud kitchens, den building and construction, so it will be a real into a pre-school setting.
‘We have a long list of parents who are waiting to enrol their children. It will extend our provision and make a big difference to what we can offer to our families and local community.'
The prefabricated timber frame, which will be wooden clad, will be installed this week under the supervision of site manager Stuart Williamson. The building will have a large learning space, two offices, toilets and a reception hallway and outside play area plus additional parking spaces.
The morning sessions will last from 8.55 to 11.55, lunch is from 11.55 to 12.25 and the afternoon session is from 12.25 to 3.25. There is 30 hours funding available for eligible parents. Breakfast club will start from 7.45 and after school club will run until 5.15pm. For more information and pricing please contact the school on 01945 584741.
