CEO on tour – Gretton
It was Science Day as our CEO, Dr Andrew Campbell toured Gretton Primary, the smallest of our Trust Schools. In the penultimate visit of his tour, Dr Campbell met students and staff who were all engaged in scientific discoveries and projects.
The Year 4/5 class was experimenting with different solutions and vegetables while the Year 6s were making (and trying out) their own customised toothpaste from a variety of ingredients including stock cubes and cinnamon! Year 1 sampled a huge range of fruits that made up animal diets and were researching Gerald Durrell and his work with endangered animals.
Other students had already done research into their animal facts and were starting a documentary project while one year group was experimenting with mirrors, torches and reflections. Reception class had enjoyed taking part in sports day with Chirpy Chicks pre-school and were having a lesson on phonics. Their topics for this term were Undersea Creatures and Pirates!
On his visit Dr Campbell saw the hall where the school’s values were displayed along with the outside space and newly built Storyteller area. Afterwards he said: ‘Thanks to all the students and staff at Gretton Primary for a very enjoyable and informative visit. It was great to see so much scientific and practical work going on and, although it is the smallest school in the Trust, it has great facilities and offers a wide range of topics and learning opportunities.’
