The foodbank developed after the school helped families access one in the town but, due to extra demand, it decided to set up its own foodbank in October last year. This has supported people through lockdown and provides support for vulnerable families to try and relieve any embarrassment or stigma of having to ask for help.

The foodbank was the idea of Vice Principal Kate Kendal. She said: ‘Things have been very challenging for many people and so, by having our own foodbank, this is just one way the school has of supporting them and showing we care.

'During the lockdowns many families were self-isolating and were not prepared for the restrictions so we became a lifeline for these families. We are also able to do doorstep deliveries of essentials to help tide them over. Families can request a donation in person or alternatively, they can send us a confidential email, if they are feeling anxious about asking us face to face. We want to make it as easy to access as we possibly can for those facing a difficult situation. 

‘We have been overwhelmed by the support of local businesses such as Mars in Kings Lynn and our parents and staff have also been incredibly generous. They have donated what they can, especially through lockdown, including toiletries and tinned goods. Sometimes they email to ask if there are specific things that we need, so we are incredibly fortunate that this foodbank is something that is valued and supported.’
