Celebrating Long Service: BWT Launches ‘10 Years Plus Club’
Last week, Brooke Weston Trust held a series of special events to honour its dedicated employees who have served for ten years or more. This was the inaugural ‘Brooke Weston Trust 10 Years Plus Club' celebration, which took place over three days, bringing together staff from various schools within the Trust to recognise their commitment and hard work.
The events were hosted at Kettering Science Academy on Monday 15th July, Brooke Weston Academy on Tuesday 16th July, and Thomas Clarkson Academy on Thursday 18th July. Attendees from all 11 schools within the Trust joined together for each gathering, which included a drinks reception with elderflower fizz and ginger fizz, creating a celebratory atmosphere for everyone involved.
Dr Andrew Campbell, CEO of Brooke Weston Trust, began the celebrations with an engaging activity that encouraged colleagues to arrange themselves in order of their years of service. This icebreaker encouraged mingling and allowed staff to share stories and experiences, strengthening the bonds within the Trust.
In total, 272 people were invited to the three events, bringing with them an astounding combined total of 4,264 years of service. The highlight of each event was the awards ceremony, where Andrew delivered an inspiring welcome speech. He shared his admiration for the long-serving employees, stating, "It’s phenomenal that so many people in this organisation have given so much of their lives to it. You really are at the forefront of what education is meant to be about."
During the ceremony, employees were called up in order of their service to receive their Long Service Award certificates and pin badges. Special vouchers were also awarded to those reaching significant milestones.
At the Brooke Weston Academy event, Andrew was himself recognised for his remarkable 28 years of service, with Sir Peter Simpson OBE, a highly respected figure in education who was knighted for his services to the field, presenting his certificate.
Adding to the surprise, Wendy Brooks and Alex de Capell Brooke, Board members of Brooke Weston Trust, were also in attendance to congratulate Andrew.
Sir Peter, who has witnessed Andrew's journey from English teacher to CEO, reflected on Andrew's journey, noting, “I have seen Andrew through all stages of his career at Brooke Weston Trust, back to when he first started as an English teacher."
Sir Peter spoke about how Brooke Weston Academy "broke the mould" when it opened as a City Technology College, emphasising that previously, schools had identified classes, not individuals. He highlighted that Brooke Weston Academy and the Trust's subsequent schools have always put children first, praising this ongoing commitment by its staff.
The celebrations were topped off by an afternoon tea buffet, prepared by the Trust's catering team, allowing colleagues to relax and enjoy each other's company.
Attendees were clearly touched by the recognition they received. One staff member remarked, "This has been really uplifting - just to say ‘thank you’ in this way is really appreciated."
Another added, "It means a lot to be recognised and appreciated by Brooke Weston Trust for the long service."
Andrew also highlighted the dedication of staff during the pandemic, stating, "Choosing to work in a school is never an easy job. You don't just teach and look after children; you're the place that they lean on most."
The events not only celebrated the contributions of long-serving employees but also reinforced the strong sense of community within Brooke Weston Trust. The heartfelt recognition and camaraderie shared during these gatherings show the Trust's dedication to its staff and the important role they play in shaping the future of education.
