Gretton pupils inspired by PSA's new reading resources
Gretton Primary Academy pupils have been diving into new books and learning experiences this term, thanks to the generous support of the school’s Parent Staff Association (PSA).
Over the summer, the PSA donated £200 to each class, helping create new opportunities for children across the school. Some classes chose to invest in outdoor learning equipment, but Sycamore Class (Year 6) decided to use their funds to refresh their much-loved reading corner, after many of the books had been read and re-read by the enthusiastic young readers.
“Reading is a whole-school focus and we are passionate about developing confident readers who love a good book,” said Mrs Young, Sycamore Class teacher. “The PSA’s kind donation meant we could top up our reading provision and ensure our children continue to have access to fresh and engaging literature that captures their interest.”
The impact has been immediate. Pupils have eagerly explored the new books and have been sharing recommendations during the school’s weekly book club sessions. Peer-to-peer recommendations have proven a powerful way to inspire reading for pleasure across the class.
Principal, Julia Dickinson, said: “We are incredibly grateful to our PSA and wider parent community for their continued generosity and support. The new books have reignited our pupils’ enthusiasm for reading and reminded us of the power of a good story. Encouraging children to read for pleasure is one of the most important things we can do as a school - it helps develop imagination, supports wellbeing, and builds essential lifelong skills.”
Gretton Primary Academy, part of Brooke Weston Trust, continues to promote reading through its weekly in-class book clubs and by sharing book recommendations on social media, encouraging families to join in the joy of reading at home.
